PROJECT 03 / HERITAGE / ONGOING
Cowhill Fold Farm.
Understanding before intervention.
A complex barn conversion within the setting of a listed farmhouse, with change, technical risk and heritage considerations shaping each decision.
THE PROJECT
Old buildings demand
new thinking.
PENRITH inherited a scheme with existing approvals and a revised accommodation brief. Changes to the barns needed to be considered in the context of the historic fabric, planning approvals and what could reasonably be built.
Structural concerns, moisture management, breathable construction and evolving proposals required decisions informed by specialist evidence, not assumptions.
01Understand historic fabric and existing permissions.
02Coordinate structural and environmental advice.
03Test new design changes in a heritage context.
04Maintain a clear record of unresolved risks.
WORK IN PROGRESS
Good architectural judgement is also knowing what cannot yet be concluded.
Project continues. Future updates will be published once drawings, approvals and client permissions are verified.
